The state of Delaware reached a new record in online poker and gambling revenue for the month of March as $260,539 was collected from the state’s trio of regulated sites and racinos that offer table games, poker, and the video lottery.
March’s total surpassed the old mark of $240,762 tallied in April 2014 by Dover Downs, Delaware Park and Harrington Raceway. The record set last month followed a robust February that saw The First State take in $229,789 in igaming revenue, which was the second highest amount ever before the Delaware State Lottery published March 2016 totals.

The March rise in revenue was 13.4% month-over-month and came on the heels of a 20% increase the previous month. Year-over-year, the revenue gain is 78% based on the March 2015 total of $146,188.
Online Poker
The revenue figures from poker rake and fees in March came to a collective $37,324. Delaware Park led the way with $20,447 and Dover Downs followed with $15,527. Not much virtual poker was played at the site operated by Harrington Raceway, as only $1,349 was raked during the month.
That total of $37,324 last month was the highest in 10 months since online poker players paid rake and fees of $39,245 in May 2015. The ipoker revenue total in March 2016 was 32% higher than the previous month when $28,294 was collected.
One year ago in March 2015, Delaware online poker rooms tallied $43,636 in revenue. That places the year-over-year decrease at 14.5%.
Video Lottery
While action on the poker tables was up, the online gambling revenue record set in March benefited most from video lottery proceeds. A new revenue high of $154,794 was reached at the VLTs last month.
That bested the previous record of $138,391 set two months ago. Month-over-month, March’s increase was a very healthy 49% better than the $103,596 collected at the VLTs in February.
Delaware gamblers favored the video lottery terminals at Dover Downs, wagering almost twice as much than at Delaware Park last month. Despite the huge difference in money played, Delaware Park’s VLTs provided slightly more revenue for the state at $64,642 to the $64,487 netted at Dover Downs. The VLT revenue stream from Harrington came in at $25,665.

Online roulette, blackjack and slots players came out in big numbers again last month in The First State, wagering over 5.5 million on table game action. Of that total, the online casinos recorded revenue of $68,420, down 30% from $97,899 in February.
The bulk of March’s net revenue gain came from Delaware Park with $64,256. Over $1 million was wagered at Dover Downs, but gamblers got most of that back because only $6,539 in revenue was collected. The situation was worse at Harrington Raceway, as gamblers beat the games for $2,375.

Table game revenue can sometimes show extreme fluctuations from month to month, depending on whether or not any large slot machine jackpots are paid out. Despite odds that favor the casinos, some months may find gamblers getting the best of it. The bettors should rejoice when that happens, because casinos win out in the long run.
